The Department of English, Jagannath Barooah University, successfully organized a NET/SLET Coaching Workshop from March 16 to March 24, 2026. The workshop was conducted in online mode and witnessed active participation from more than 50 students from within and outside the university. A total of 11 resource persons contributed to the week-long academic programme.

The inaugural session held on March 16 was graced by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof  Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Registrar Dr. Utpal Jyoti Mahanta, Academic Registrar Dr. Surajit Sharma, and Head of the Department of English, Dr. Nandini Choudhury Bora, along with other faculty members of the department.

In his inaugural address, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of English and emphasized the importance of NET/SLET examinations. He also offered valuable guidance to students regarding effective preparation strategies.

The Registrar, Dr. Utpal Jyoti Mahanta, commended the department for organizing the workshop for the third consecutive time and encouraged students to make the best use of such opportunities.

Dr. Surajit Sharma, Academic Registrar and Associate Professor of the Department of English, highlighted the achievements of former students in NET and SLET examinations and noted that many of the resource persons were distinguished alumni of the department.

During the technical sessions, resource persons including Dr. Damini Kashyap, Ashmita Bora, Anamika Tamuli, Dr. Kaushik Bhuyan, and Dr. Ritusmita Sharma delivered lectures on various aspects of English literature, including literary history, critical theory, and major genres.

Additionally, faculty members of the department—Pranami Bania, Dr. Saba Anis, Dr. Indrani Hazarika, Konkona Bharali, and Akash Borchetia—conducted sessions focusing on important components and strategies related to NET/SLET examinations.

The valedictory session was held on March 24, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Head of the Department, Dr. Nandini Choudhury Bora. In her address, she extended heartfelt thanks to all resource persons and participants for contributing to the success of the workshop. She also expressed satisfaction at the participation of students from other universities and reiterated the department’s commitment to organizing similar academic initiatives in the future.

The session was anchored by Assistant Professor Priyanka Bharali, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Nilav Nayan Gupta, a second-semester postgraduate student of the department.
