An Anti-Drug Bicycle Rally was organised at Jagannath Barooah University (JBU) on 14 March 2026 under the nationwide awareness initiative Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan with the message “Say No to Drugs.” The rally was organised by the Anti-Addiction Committee of JBU in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Jorhat, and in association with CKB Commerce College and DCB Girls’ College.

The rally was ceremonially flagged off by the Vice-Chancellor of JBU, Prof. Jyoti Prasad Saikia, who encouraged students and participants to actively promote a drug-free society and emphasised the importance of youth participation in social awareness initiatives.

Among the dignitaries present from collaborating institutions were Dr. Dhatatrreya from the Rotary Club of Jorhat, Dr. Nita Lagachu Taye from CKB Commerce College, and Capt. Dorothi Momin from DCB Girls’ College.

From Jagannath Barooah University, the rally witnessed the active participation of faculty members including Dr. Surajit Sarmah, Mr. Subhasish Sarmah, Dr. Bhupen Boruah, Capt. Sandeep Sankar Regan, Dr. Pushpanjali Hazarika, Dr. Rinku Dey, Mr. Ashis Kashyap, Mr. Digbijay Das, and Mr. Abhilash Borthakur. Several members of the university’s office staff also joined the rally in support of the cause.

Students from all the three participating academic institutions enthusiastically took part in the rally along with NCC cadets, demonstrating strong collective commitment towards spreading awareness against drug abuse.

The bicycle rally covered an important route across the city, starting from the JBU campus and proceeding through Doss & Co–Gar Ali, Mithapukhuri, Sankar Hall Tiniali, and Jagya Mandir, before returning to the university campus. Through this public outreach activity, participants sought to spread the message of healthy living and create awareness about the dangers of drug addiction among the wider community.

The event successfully highlighted the role of educational institutions, students, and civil society organisations in promoting a drug-free society and encouraging responsible citizenship.
