March 1–7, 2024, is celebrated in the department as International Geomorphology Week by International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG). The objectives are to mobilize the student community and advance geomorphology in all of its manifestations. Dr. Nurul Amin, head of the Geology Department delivered the speech in the importance of understanding geomorphological aspects in the historical and present-day context. He described how Assam, a river-borne region should respect and understand the changes in the Brahmaputra and its tributaries in the historical perspective.  Several inter- and intra- departmental events and competitions were organized in this week celebrating International Geomorphology Week with a geomorphology theme. Model making and demonstration competition among the departmental students of both Major and Minor courses (under FYUGP-NEP) was one of the key event. In Major group, best model was awarded to Sonakshi Bordoloi, Sunakshi Gogoi, Ankita Paul and Pranjal Sarmah (glacial landform: depositional) and best model with demonstration to Basundhara Das, Promit Niloy Chaliha, Emy Sarmah and Priyanka Bora (continental and marine landforms). Arindam Tamuli, Anup Kumar Narah, Kajol Goswami, Rishita Bora and Sneha Paul of Minor group won the best model for the model Glacial Landform: depositional. An inter-departmental essay competition was also organized as a part of the Dr. Milan Rakshit memorial geological forum event. The theme was Role of Earth Sciences in the Society. The winner of the event was Murchana Bora (UG 2^nd Semester, Dept. of Political Science), Abinash Borah (UG 4^th Semester, Dept. of Assamese) and Bhargav Nath (UG 2^nd Semester, Dept. of Electronics).
