On March 8, 2025, the Geological Forum of the Department of Geology, Jagannath Barooah University, Jorhat, successfully hosted Geo-Connect 1.0 & 2.0, an interactive lecture series designed to foster student engagement and academic curiosity. Held at the Seminar Hall-1 of the institute from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, the event marked both International Geomorphology Week and International Women’s Day with two distinguished guest speakers.
The event opened with a warm welcome by Puja Borah (2nd semester), who introduced aims and objectives of the Geo-Connect. A felicitation ceremony was conducted to honour the invited speakers.
Session 1: Understanding Geomorphology
The session began with an address on the significance of Geomorphology Day by Bandita Borah (4th semester), followed by an introduction of the resource person by Sneha Deori (2nd semester).
Dr. Shukla Acharjee, Assistant Professor, Dibrugarh University, delivered a keynote talk on Understanding Geomorphology, covering landform development, erosional and depositional processes, and the field’s role in environmental studies and hazard assessment. The session provided valuable insights into the dynamic forces shaping the Earth's surface.
Session 2: Women & Geosciences
The second session opened with Sneha Borah (4th semester) highlighting the significance of Women’s Day, followed by an introduction of the guest speaker by Pakhi Phukan (2nd semester).
Miss Kakoli Banya Baruah (APS) shared her journey preparing for the GSI while studying geology and spoke on the broader contributions of women in society, civil services, and the armed forces. She also emphasized the role of men in fostering a supportive and progressive environment. Her inspiring words reinforced the importance of collective effort in societal growth.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Chaitra Dhar Taye, Sorat Konwar, and Dr. Raghupratim Rakshit, faculty members of the department. It concluded with a vote of thanks by Abinash Bikash Hazarika (6th semester), expressing gratitude to the guest speakers, faculty, and participants.
With engaging discussions and meaningful takeaways, Geo-Connect proved to be an enriching experience, blending academic learning with reflections on societal progress.
