The Department of Economics, Jagannath Barooah University, successfully organized a Special Talk Program on “Role of NABARD: The Development Bank of the Nation for Fostering Rural Prosperity” on 10th September 2025 (Wednesday) at Conference Hall–1.
The invited resource person, Mr. Mantu Das, DDM, Jorhat & Majuli, delivered an excellent and insightful lecture highlighting the role, functioning, and impact of NABARD in promoting rural development. Drawing from his rich professional experience in Jorhat and Majuli, he elaborated on NABARD’s initiatives in agriculture, infrastructure, credit support, and rural prosperity. His practical illustrations made the session highly engaging and informative.
The talk was followed by an interactive session, during which students enthusiastically posed questions, and Mr. Das addressed them with clarity and real-life examples. This session not only deepened the students’ understanding but also inspired them to appreciate the importance of developmental banking in rural India.
The program was graced by the presence of Dr. Surajit Sharma, Dean (I/c), Academic Affairs, and Dr. Minakshi Phukan, Dean (I/c), School of Social Sciences and Humanities. All faculty members of the Department of Economics attended the event.
A total of 134 students and a few research scholars participated in the program, making it a grand success. The department extends heartfelt thanks to the resource person and all attendees for their active participation, which turned the program into a memorable academic event. The meeting was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Ashrafuzzaman Chowdhury, Head of the Department.
