The Department of Economics at Jagannath Barooah University recently hosted an insightful internship presentation session, featuring Dr. Bhaktimoy Bhattacharjee, Addl. Chief Medical & Health Officer (Public Health) for Jorhat District, as a distinguished guest and facilitator. Dr. Bhattacharjee, along with his team from the Tobacco Control Board, Government of Assam, guided a student group through a field-based internship focused on tobacco consumption and its socio-economic impact. The first group of students presented their findings from a comprehensive survey conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Bhattacharjee and his team. Their research explored how tobacco use has adversely affected both health outcomes and economic conditions in the study area. The presentation highlighted key data points, community insights, and policy implications, offering a compelling narrative on the urgent need for public health interventions.
This collaborative effort between academia and public health authorities marks a significant step toward experiential learning and community engagement
