A Book Release and Talk Programme was organized on 4th September, 2025 at Conference Hall 1 by the Department of Assamese, Jagannath Barooah University, in collaboration with JS Publications, Guwahati. The event witnessed the participation of eminent academicians, literary figures, faculty members, and students.

The programme began with a melodious song written by Vice-Chancellor Professor Jyoti Prasad Saikia, beautifully presented by Bhargabi Sonowal. This was followed by the Welcome Address delivered by Dr. Utpal Jyoti Mahanta, Registrar of the University, who highlighted the long-standing contribution of the Department of Assamese in the field of literature and academics.

The academic session commenced with a talk by Dr. Debabhusan Bora, Associate Professor, Department of English, Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya. Speaking on the topic “Bhaprodhan Asomiya Uponyah”,(ভাৱপ্ৰধান  অসমীয়া উপন্যাস)   he elaborated on the history and nature of Assamese emotional novels, with special reference to the newly published novel of Professor Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Mrityusnan.(মৃত্যুস্নান )

The second talk was delivered by Dr. Prasanta Kumar Chutia, a renowned literary critic, on “Oti Samprotik Asomiya Sutigolpor Gotiprokriti”( অতিসাম্প্ৰতিক অসমীয়া চুটি গল্পৰ গতি -প্ৰকৃতি ). He explained the contemporary trends of Assamese short stories and their evolving narrative patterns.

The highlight of the event was the release of two novels authored by Professor Jyoti Prasad Saikia, namely Mrityusnan (মৃত্যুস্নান ) and Dwitiyo Pristha (দ্বিতীয় পৃষ্ঠা ). The books were formally released by Professor Mahadev Patgiri, Vice Chancellor of Sibsagar University, who praised the author for his significant literary contributions and creative excellence.

The  publisher, Mr. Pronob Hazarika, then addressed the gathering. In his speech, Professor Jyoti Prasad Saikia expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university, organizers, and well-wishers for their encouragement.

The entire programme was presided over by Head of the department Swamim Nasrin, who conducted the proceedings with grace. Dr. Papumoni Hazarika offered the Vote of Thanks, extending appreciation to all participants and contributors who made the event successful.
