A 60-hour hands-on training programme on “Applied Bioinformatics: Concepts, Techniques, and Advanced Tools” was inaugurated on December 13, 2025, by University Registrar Dr. Utpal Jyoti Mahanta in the presence of faculty members and students. The 10-day programme fulfils the internship requirement for 4th Semester Zoology (Major) students and has also attracted participation from 6th Semester students.
Organized by Nilave Bhuyan, Departmental Coordinator for Internship, the programme is being conducted by a Bioinformatics team from NIELIT Guwahati Centre, including Dr. Hem Chandra Deka and Manabendra Nath, under the supervision of Dr. Saurov Mahanta.
In his inaugural address, Registrar Dr. Mahanta highlighted the role of skill-based, interdisciplinary learning in enhancing employability, aligning with the vision of NEP-2020, and expressed hope for bioinformatics to emerge as a strong multidisciplinary course at the university. Dr. Saurov Mahanta briefed participants on NIELIT’s MeitY-funded Smart Bioinformatics Ecosystem project and encouraged active participation.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rashmi Rekha Saikia, who acknowledged the support of the University administration, NIELIT Guwahati Centre, departmental faculty members, and the organizing coordinator for successfully conducting the training.
